Kocobędz Archaeological Park is a replica of a wooden castle from the early Middle Ages. The circular stronghold, surrounded by wooden palisade, was recreated on the basis of archaeological research. You can see here a long, multi-family residential building, smaller huts in which, among others, craftsmen, a place of worship and the seat of the ruler. The service consists of animators dressed in period clothes who present old crafts.
Kocobędz belongs to the oldest settlement locations in Cieszyn Silesia. The stronghold here probably already existed in the Bronze Age. The existence of the Hallstatt culture estate has certainly been documented. Between VIII and XI century the stronghold was inhabited by Slavs. It is the reconstruction of their headquarters that we can admire today.
The Archaeological Park was established in 2001. In 2015, an exhibition pavilion located outside the fortified city was opened. There is a multimedia exhibition showing the history of Kosobędz in the prehistoric period and in the early Middle Ages. The stronghold itself is located on a hill. Within it, the appearance of the then housing estate was recreated based on research. The chalets were equipped with replicas of the then equipment and tools. Old crafts workshops are conducted in the stronghold. Outdoor events are also held here.
