Kumanovo is a city in which a large part of the inhabitants are Albanians. Some historic buildings have been preserved in its center, including the Old Mosque.
The city is named after the Cuman tribe who were to live in this area during the Middle Ages. The first records of the settlement appear at the beginning of the 16th century, and under Turkish rule it became the seat of local authorities. There was a mosque, a madrasah and a large market with a caravanserai. Currently, it is primarily an industrial center and a large cultural center of the Albanian population.
In the center of Kumanovo, you can visit the partially preserved bazaar district with the Old Mosque and numerous shops and stalls. There is also the Museum in Kumanów, which presents exhibitions on the history and culture of the city. Among the attractions of Kumanowo is also the New Mosque-Albanian Mosque located on the outskirts of the city, and the statue of Josip Broz Tito, dating back to the bygone era.
