Saint John's Cathedral
Local name: Sint-Janskathedraal
Sint-Janskathedraal, or the cathedral of St. John was founded around 1220 in the Romanesque style, and then was rebuilt in accordance with the canon of the Gothic style. Currently, it is considered a gem of Brabant Gothic. After renovation in 2010, 25 new sculptures decorating the facade were added, including an angel with a cell phone, dressed in jeans. Searching for this surprising figure has become a new tourist attraction of the temple.
Inside the church there are many antique equipment, including an exquisitely carved metal baptismal font from 1492, authored by Aert van Tricht, and a huge organ built in 1618-1638 by Floris Hocque II, Hans Goltfuss and Germer van Hagerbeer.
Sint-Janskathedraal is the largest Catholic temple in the Netherlands. Its length is 115 m, width 62 m, and its tower rises to a height of 73 m.
