Dragon fountain
Local name: Drakenfontein
The fountain erected in 1903 was supposed to provide drinking water, but it never served that purpose. There are two theories explaining the presence of dragons on the monument. The first refers to the name of the founder, Bosch van Drakenstein. The second one refers to the name of Dragon Marshes, which was worn by the difficult to travel areas around the city.
