Amsterdam Municipal Archive

Gemeentearchief Amsterdam is an archive storing documents regarding the history of Amsterdam. The facility contains 32 km of documentation about the city, which makes it the largest municipal archive in the world. Since 2007, the City Archives are located in the monumental De Bazel building, in the city center, which name comes from the famous Dutch architect KPC de Bazel, who designed it.
Archival materials are made available both on site and via the Internet. On the archive's website, there is the Image Bank, containing over 260,000 photos, drawings and prints related to the city, as well as the archive database, providing on request over seven million scans, including rich sources for genealogical research.
The Amsterdam Archives also share available expertise on the city and its history through publications and events. The Office regularly presents temporary exhibitions, and noteworthy documents are constantly exhibited in the so-called vault.
