The Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam is an archaeological museum with a huge collection of antiquities from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Etruria and the Roman Empire. Visitors will see here, among others sarcophagi and mummies, as well as a film showing the secrets of the mummification process.
The museum also exhibited models of ancient buildings, including most important temples and plaster casts of Roman and Greek statues (the room with castings can be visited only with a guide). The Greek-Roman collection also includes everyday items, ceramics and jewelry, some of the exhibits have been decorated with motifs from mythology.
The exhibition consists of over 17,500 objects, which makes the Allard Pierson Museum the most important and largest institution of this type in the whole of the Netherlands. The exhibits come from the period from 4000 BC to 500 AD
