Madame Tussauds Amsterdam
Local name: Madame Tussauds Amsterdam
The museum is located on Dam Square, near the Royal Palace. Established in 1970, it was the first branch of the British Madame Tussauds Museum in continental Europe, which has existed in London since 1835. Marie Tussaud (born Marie Grosholtz) was born in 1761 in France. She made her first model at the age of 16, when during the French Revolution she helped in casting guillotine heads.
The museum was opened in 1970, thanks to the initiative of Josephine Tussaud, great-great-granddaughter Marie Tussaud. The collection presents life-size wax figures of people known from the world of film, music, sport, culture and politics. The museum also offers several interactive attractions. One of them is the possibility of taking a photo stylized in the image of van Gogh.
