The monument of Victor Emmanuel II commemorates the nineteenth-century representative of the Savoyard dynasty, the king of Sardinia, and from 1861 the first king of united Italy. The monument is located on the Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront, near St. Mark in Venice. Victor Emmanuel II was immortalized as a rider with a sword in his hand. On the pedestal of the monument there is a bas-relief in bronze. Below the monument on each side are sculptures of women with lions, which symbolize the patron saint of Venice.
Works on the construction of the bronze monument were completed in 1887, its solemn inauguration took place on May 1 this year. The author of the work is the sculptor and politician Ettore Ferreri, who also created the sculpture Giordano Bruno at Campo di Fiori in Rome.
