In Venice there is the house of one of the most famous sailors - Marco Polo. Only the plaque on the wall of the building reminds of the importance of this place. The building is not available for tourists.
The Venetian merchant and traveler lived at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Together with his father and uncle, as one of the first representatives of the West, they reached China on the Silk Road. Maco Polo started his journey to Asia when he was only 15 years old, he returned from it only
after 24 years. According to historians, after returning to Venice, he took up family merchant activities, got married and had 3 daughters.
The famous description of the world in which Marco Polo's travel stories are found was written by Rustichella of Pisa, with whom the traveler was in captivity. Many scholars assume that Marco Polo never reached China, because there is no mention of it in those chronicles. It is believed that Marco Polo swam furthest to the Black Sea.
