Toscolano-Maderno is a holiday village on Lake Garda. There are sandy beaches here, and the surrounding area offers opportunities for active tourism and water sports. Several interesting monuments and beautiful buildings have been preserved in the town.
The city was created by joining two separate villages of Toscolano and Maderno. Both have ancient roots, and in the area, excavations were carried out, among others, remains of a Roman villa with preserved mosaic floors. Also the local church of Madonna del Benaco from the 11th century is built on the site of the former temple of Jupiter. Fragments of the original Roman columns can be seen in the facade of the temple.
The village stretches along the lake shore along which a promenade runs. There is also a wide, sandy beach, a yacht port and water equipment rentals. The mountainous surroundings, in turn, offer the possibility of hiking along numerous routes.
In addition to attractions related to active tourism and leisure, Toscolano-Maderno also has many interesting places related to history. In the past, paper was produced here, and the old paper mills can be seen in Valle delle Cartiere (the valley of paper). There are also pretty 19th century holiday villas surrounded by gardens and a botanical garden.
