Santarcangelo di Romagna is a town picturesquely situated on the hill of Monte Giove. Its volcanic rocks have a network of corridors that date back to the Middle Ages. The historic center has retained the charm of a small town.

The city has ancient roots, and the monuments from this period found in the area can be seen at the MUSAS Archaeological Museum. From the Middle Ages it was an important craft center, and the center has retained its historical character to this day. It is a mix of buildings from different periods, from Romanesque to Baroque. The most important ones include the triumphal arch from the 18th century, the belfry and the late Baroque collegiate church. The fortress Malatesta, built on the highest point of the city, dates back to the 14th century and remains in private hands to this day.

The hill of Giove, on which the Santarcangelo di Romagna is built, is crossed by caves and grottos carved in tuff. In the past, they served as cellars and some were places of worship. Today, some of them are open to tourists, while others have wine bars and restaurants.
