Salò is a tourist town and holiday resort on Lake Garda. It is part of the so-called Lemon Riviera and has nice beaches, a bathing area and a marina from which ships and tourist boats depart.

The city was known already in Roman times. There were numerous villas of representatives of wealthy families, of which only ruins remain to this day. In the Middle Ages, the owners of these areas were the Visconti family, and in the following centuries, Salò was taken over by Venice, and then by Austria. Throughout its history, leisure has played an important role in his character. To this day, you can see historic villas surrounded by gardens, where representatives of the aristocracy spent their summers.

The historic center of Salò is on the lakeshore. There is a promenade with many shops and restaurants. The main landmark of the old town is Piazza della Vittoria. It is located by the water and close to the cruise ship pier. It is not far from here to the greatest historical attraction of Salò, the cathedral built in the late Gothic style. Its interior is decorated with paintings and pictures created by outstanding artists of the turn of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

There are nice sandy beaches just outside Salò. You can also rent water equipment on the shore, and the nearby San Bernardo Mountain offers a great selection of trekking and cycling routes.
