Annunciation Church
Local name: Blagoveštenska templom
The Church of the Annunciation in Szentendre is an Orthodox temple, which originally belonged to the Budzi eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and is now a Greek Catholic church. The most important monument inside the temple is the iconostasis from the beginning of the 19th century with icons by Mihailo Živkovic.
The church was founded in the mid-eighteenth century. At the end of the previous century, Greek, Serbian and Bosnian people fled to Szentendre, fleeing the Turks. Having settled in Szentendre, they built a church for themselves. It was founded in 1752, and its creator was András Mayerhoffer, who also designed two other Orthodox temples in Hungary.
The Church of the Annunciation represents the Rococo and Baroque styles. A richly decorated stone gate leads into the interior. Above the side entrance you can see frescoes depicting St. Constantine and Saint. Ilona. The church also has a 28-meter tower.
