The Regional Arts Center in Szeged is more widely known under the abbreviation REÖK. It is a cultural center where various types of temporary exhibitions and other events are organized, presenting all areas of art, in particular painting, photography, applied art and contemporary art.
The building in which REÖK has its headquarters is very valuable from the point of view of art history and architecture. It is a palace built in 1907, representing the Hungarian Art Nouveau style, known as the Hungarian jugendstil. The palace was built according to the design of Ede Magyar by Iván Reök, to which the name of the cultural center, which is currently located here, refers.
REÖK is a co-organizer of the Szegedi Szabadtéri Festival, i.e. an open-air festival. This is the largest such event in Hungary. Dozens of concerts, performances and other artistic events take place as part of the festival.
