A small resort town in the eastern part of Crete which is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. In its vicinity there are several nice, developed beaches, and the town's attraction is the freshwater lake Voulismeni located in its center.
Although Agios Nikolaos has ancient roots, the old buildings have not survived here at all. Both Greek objects and the Venetian fortress were destroyed, after which only the name of Mirabello Bay remained. The vast majority of buildings come from the twentieth century and was created after the town was popularized as a seaside resort.
The biggest attraction of Agios Nikolaos, in addition to the surrounding beaches is the lake Voulismeni. Thanks to the connection with the sea, it is a picturesque port for small boats and boats. Around him taverns, restaurants and cafes found their place, where life goes on until late at night. Nearby, you can also visit the Folklore Museum presenting the material culture of eastern Crete and the Archaeological Museum with a collection of monuments from nearby excavations.
