Markkleeberg is a city that offers tourists the opportunity to spend time by the water and spend time actively. In its vicinity, there are two lakes with well-developed tourist infrastructure.
The city was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by joining several older towns and settlements around Leipzig. Most of its buildings are contemporary, but you can also find traces of the past, such as the ruins of the Wachau church. An interesting journey into the past can be made at the Museum of Photography.
Markkleeberg's biggest attraction are the two lakes in its vicinity, Lake Cospudener and the Markkleeberger. You can go on a lake cruise, use the eastern beach with a swimming pool, or go to the rope park. There are also walking paths and picnic areas on the shores of the lake.
In the vicinity of the lakes there is the Markkleeberg Canoe Park with artificial lanes intended for whitewater canoeing. The routes are of varying difficulty and allow for recreational practicing of this sport.
