Bad Urach is a thermal spa and a pretty, historic town that was once one of the residences of the Dukes of Württemberg. Many half-timbered buildings and the ducal residence have been preserved here.
From the Middle Ages, Bad Urach was the seat of the Dukes of Württemberg. Near the city there are ruins of the Gothic Hohenurach castle, and in the city itself you can see the prince's residence. Its origins date back to the late Middle Ages, but the building was rebuilt many times and you can now see rooms decorated in the spirit of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The most magnificent of them is the Golden Hall, one of the most beautiful Renaissance interiors in Germany.
An important monument of the city is the Church of St. Amanda from the 15th century with valuable, late gothic furnishings. Around it, there is the Old Town with the market square surrounded by 16th century half-timbered tenement houses with tiled roofs. Due to the large number of preserved half-timbered buildings, Bad Urach is located on the German Prussian Wall Trail.
There are many scenic routes around Bad Urach. One of them leads to the Urach Waterfall, which is located in the Szabski Jar Geopark. The cascade can be viewed from both below and above, and there are also picnic areas and a restaurant in its vicinity.
Bad Urach is also a thermal spa. The local thermal waters are a remnant of prehistoric volcanic activity in this area. Currently, the springs are used in bathing places, as well as leisure and recreation centers.
