Wilhelma's zoological and botanical garden has over 10,000 animals representing 100 species and 7,000 species of plants from all climate zones.
The garden boasts a unique breeding of great apes, where all four species live together with their offspring and the only monkey kindergarten in Europe. The garden also organizes classes for children and youth in the fields of botany, zoology and ecology.
Visitors can see, among others runs for bears, giraffes and elephants, an aquarium with animals from around the world, an insectarium, a reptile pavilion, a palm house and the Moorish Garden.
The Moorish complex from the 19th century initially served as a royal palace and was adopted for the purposes of the botanical garden only after World War II.
