Perpignan is a historic city where French and Spanish influences blend. In the past, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca and is home to a medieval royal castle.
Situated at the foot of the Pyrenees, Perpignan is known as one of the sunniest cities in France. In winter, in particular, the temperatures are pleasant, which do not often drop below 10 degrees Celsius. The short distance from the sea, monuments from different eras and spectacular landscapes make it a good base for exploring the French-Spanish border.
In the 13th and 14th centuries Perpignan was the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca. It is home to the Gothic Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, which now houses a museum. The former city fortifications include Castillet, a small tower connected to a bastion, which is considered one of the city's symbols.
Many churches and monasteries, mainly from the Middle Ages, have been preserved in the historic center. You can also see the city's palaces and tenement houses as well as the remains of the Arcades aqueduct.
The Perpignan area is very attractive for tourists. Mountains on one side, coast on the other, and picturesque landscapes and a diverse coastline. All this makes it possible to practice active tourism here, such as hiking or cycling.
