Local name: Château de Peyrepertuse
The castle was erected on a limestone hill by Cathars in the second half. 10th century. Located over an 800-meter precipice, the fortress received the title of a national monument. The medieval castle is one of the 'five sons of Carcassone' - the largest castles of the former Cathar Country.
