SAMSØ tourist attractions

+12 attractions

Samsø is an island in the Kattagat Strait. It is often called the "garden of Denmark" due to the excellent conditions for vegetation. There are also many sandy beaches that are visited by tourists from home and abroad during the summer.

The island covers an area of 114 square km and is home to more than 20 towns. They are small and many of them have traditional buildings. You can see medieval churches there, incl. in Nordby, Kolby and Tranebjerg.

The coastal villages have small fishing ports and harbors. One of them is the Ballen Harbor, where small tourist yachts can also be moored. You can also see lighthouses in several parts of the coast.

In summer, Samsø is visited by tourists who are looking for opportunities to relax by the sea and practice active tourism. The beaches here are sandy and many of them have gentle descent into the water. A favorite place for tourists is Cape Issehoved with the beach located at the northernmost point of the island. On the other hand, in the central part of the island, you can walk along the Besser Rev spit and see a large bay with rocky islands.

But a holiday by the sea itself is not the only attraction of Samsø. The undulating, moraine, post-glacial landscape is perfect for hiking and biking tours. Numerous routes have been marked out here that connect individual villages and lead, among others, to the highest point of the island, Ballebjerg, and to the Besser lookout tower. On Samsø you can also visit the Samsø Labyrinth and the Falkecenter Samsø ApS breeding center for birds of prey.
