Vikingeborgen Trelleborg

Local name: Vikingeborgen Trelleborg

The mighty fortress is part of the Danish National Museum. It was built around 900 on the orders of the Danish king Harald Blue Tooth. It stands on a narrow headland and is one of the best-preserved medieval ring-type forts. It houses a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the Vikings.

The inner ramparts were 5 m high and 14 m wide. They were made of earth, stone and wood. From the outside, they were additionally reinforced with an 8-meter oak palisade and a moat, 17 meters wide and 4 meters deep. In its heyday, the fortress was considered almost impregnable.

During your visit, you can not only see exhibitions on Trelleborg's history and Viking culture, but also take part in a variety of shows and workshops. The Viking Festival is held here every summer.
