Kongens Lyngby is a town surrounded by Copenhagen, on the historic route leading to Frederiksborg Castle. There is an open-air museum, many recreational areas and the seat of the Danish Technical University.
In the Middle Ages, the area of today's city belonged to the church. Over time, a thriving trade and craft center developed here, the development of which was related to its location on one of the main routes in Denmark. The Gothic Lyngby church has been preserved from the Middle Ages.
Later, many wealthy Danish families built their seats in the city. one such estate is Sophienholm with extensive gardens picturesquely situated on Lake Bagsveard.
Kongens Lyngby's tourist attraction is an open-air museum presenting the architecture of the Danish countryside. There you can see equipped huts and farms with entire farms. The shores of the Fredriksdals Channel are a nice place to rest. You can go barge, canoe and boat trips on the canal, and there are picnic areas and walking paths on the shores. Or you can take advantage of organized Baadfarten cruises.
Due to its location on the outskirts of Copenhagen, Kongens Lyngby was the site of the construction of the external fortress defending the capital. Within the city, you can see Fort Lyngby and Fort Fortun.
