Fur is a small island in the Limfjord Bay, considered a paradise for lovers of fossils and people who like wild cliffs.
The 22 square kilometer island is connected to the Salling Peninsula by ferry. The crossing takes only a few minutes, making it a popular destination for day trips. There is one larger town on the island, Nederby, and individual farms. The dominant feature is traditional, wooden buildings consisting of red-painted houses. Here you can visit the Old Harbor Museum in Fur and the Fur Museum presenting the local nature and the life of the inhabitants of the island.
The attractions of the island of Fur are mainly associated with the local landscapes. Cliffs of limestone and diatomite rise above the sea. The most famous are Klif Langsted Huller and Klify Bispehuen. On the beaches you can find fossils from a prehistoric warm sea. There are also places where a special kind of clay is obtained, rock monadnocks and wild areas covered with meadows and low thickets, among which walking paths have been led.
