Sea War Museum Jutland

Local name: Sea War Museum Jutland

The museum is dedicated to the Battle of Jutland that took place on May 31, 1916 in the North Sea between the British and German fleets. It was the largest naval battle of World War I and the only clash of line fleets in this conflict. The museum is the only one in Denmark dedicated to foreign, not domestic, history.

Some of the exhibitions also tell about the air war over the North Sea. During the tour, you can see British and German submarines, as well as exhibits extracted from the SM U-20, a German U-Boat submarine that sunk, among others, the liner RMS Lusitania.

Next to the museum is Jutland Memorial Park. It was founded to commemorate 8,645 British and German sailors who died in the battle. The monument was unveiled on the hundredth anniversary of the battle. The event was hosted by Nicolas Jellicoe, grandson of British Admiral John Jellicoe, and Reinhard Scheer, great-grandson of Vice Admiral Reinhard Scheer.
