Thyborøn is a port and an important fishing center situated at the mouth of Limfjorden Bay. There is an unusual House of the Snail, decorated with shells of crustaceans, and a large aquarium presenting various species of fish and other sea animals.

The city was founded during World War I on the spit that separates the Limfjorden estuary from the North Sea. The strip of land resulting from the application of sand is cut by numerous channels, which allowed for the creation of a safe, sheltered from the winds fishing port.

The waters around the mouth of Limfjorden became the scene of the greatest naval battle of World War I in 1916. It is commemorated by the Battle of Jutland Memorial Park and the Naval War Museum in Jutland. During World War II, the area around Thyborøn was heavily fortified by the Germans. About 100 bunkers of various sizes and technical condition have survived to this day.

The location of Thyborøn means that from the very beginning of its existence, the town is strongly associated with the sea. There is a fishing port and a beach here. Thyborøn's highlight is the Jyllands Akvariet aquarium, as well as the Coastal Center, which houses the Coastal Museum and Experimentarium. You can learn here how sea currents and tides are formed and how the coast changes due to waves and wind. A curiosity of the village is the House of the Snail, decorated with shells. It houses an exhibition of ships in bottles.
