The Open-air Museum Hjerl Hede

Local name: Frilandsmuseet Hjerl Hede

The open-air museum is located in the forest on Lake Flyndersø. It can be visited by a horse-drawn carriage or the smallest railway in Europe with a steam locomotive. There are buildings from rural areas from the beginning of the 16th to the end of the 19th century. Among them there are houses and farm buildings, as well as a mill, a windmill and a church built in the Romanesque style.

Among the craft workshops you can see a shoemaker's workshop, a dairy, a forge and a shop. There is also an inn with a kitchen, a village school and parish buildings. There you can see employees dressed in period costumes. It is worth entering the mill during the tour. It was built in 1788 in Frøslev, and then completely moved to the open-air museum. Inside, see the well-preserved mechanisms and equipment and listen to lectures on the principles of its operation.

Farm animals such as horses, cows, pigs, sheep and poultry are raised in the open-air museum. Some of them represent old Danish races.
