Fur Museum

Local name: Fur Museum

The Fur Museum is a natural history museum founded as early as 1954. It is primarily devoted to the geology, fauna and flora of the island of Fur, on which it is located. The collection includes an extensive and diverse collection of early Eocene fossils dating back 55 million years, including fossils of insects, birds, fish, reptiles and terrestrial plants.

Next to the main building of the museum there is a Geopark, the route of which forms a timeline allowing to trace the geological history of the world. There are presented rocks characteristic for particular epochs and geological periods. You can also see models of extinct animals, for example, in the section devoted to the Cretaceous period, 3.5-meter models of tyrannosaurus and triceratops were placed, and in the section from the Ice Age there is a mammoth and a round.

The Fur Museum also houses an agricultural exhibition dedicated to the development of local agriculture, fisheries and the economy in the 19th and 20th centuries.
