ROVINJ tourist attractions

+1 attraction

Often called the Croatian Saint Tropez, Rovinj lies on the western shore of the Istrian Peninsula. A characteristic element of this picturesque town is the Old Town on the former island and the silhouette of the Gothic church of St. Euphemia with a 61 meter tower. Narrow streets give the city a climate as if alive transferred from Italy.

Rovinj is an intimate resort with pebble beaches and lots of tiny islets nearby, where you can sunbathe, avoiding the crowds. There is also a port and a marina, where boats and yachts from all over Europe moor. There is also a lack of accommodation base of various standards and prices, as well as restaurants and bars.

The town developed during the Middle Ages, and experienced the greatest splendor under the rule of Venice, which lasted until the end of the 18th century. Initially it was on an island, which, however, was later connected to the mainland by dumping the isthmus. Venetian reign brought the city not only the city walls, modeled on Venetian palaces and the church bell tower imitating the one from St. The brand, but also cultural influences that have persisted to this day.

Walking through the narrow streets of Rovinj you get the impression that you are in Italy. It is not only a matter of building, but also the behavior of residents and the kitchen. It is easier to find a pizzeria or a restaurant serving pasta than traditional Croatian dishes. There is also one addition that distinguishes local dishes from other cities. It is truffles, a delicacy that grows in Istria and is a distinguishing feature of the local cuisine.
