Riegersburg is a small town in Styria. It lies in a beautiful area, where the landscape is diversified by low mountains. Its biggest attraction is the castle that is still in the hands of the Liechtenstein family.
The town is located at the foot and on the slopes of an extinct volcano, almost 500 m above sea level. It was on its top that a stronghold was built in the Middle Ages, whose walls reach 3 km in length. There are 11 bastions and 7 gates here, and a large part of farm and representative buildings have survived to this day. The castle can be reached on foot and with the cable car built for tourists.
In addition to the castle, Riegersburg boasts a nice, historic building and picturesque surroundings, which is great for hiking and cycling. The slopes of the surrounding hills are overgrown with vineyards, and in the town you can find several wineries offering tastings and the opportunity to spend a pleasant time.
