Salts Mill

Salts Mill is a former textile factory, now transformed into an art gallery, shopping center and restaurant complex. You can see a large collection of David Hockney's works and learn the history of the plant thanks to the exhibitions 'People and Process' and 'Saltaire History'. Here, among others antique stores, bookstores, jewelry and music factories.

Salts Mill was opened in 1853 as a central element of Sir Titus Salta's utopian vision. In the neighborhood he built a model village, which was to accommodate workers working in the plant. Fabric production in Salts finally ceased in 1986.

In 2001, Saltaire was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. According to the justification, "Saltaire is an outstanding and well-preserved example of an industrial town from the mid-nineteenth century. The layout and architecture of Saltaire perfectly reflect the philanthropic paternalism of the mid-nineteenth century, as well as the important role of the textile industry in economy and trade. social development ".
