National Science and Media Museum
The National Museum of Science and Media presents the science and culture of light and sound technology and their impact on everyday life. The museum occupies seven floors with permanent exhibitions dedicated to, among others photography, television, animation, video games and the Internet. It also organizes temporary exhibitions. There are three cinemas operated in cooperation with Picturehouse Cinemas, including IMAX. The facility runs festivals devoted to widescreen films, video games and science.
The museum's collections contain about 3.5 million exhibits. The most famous include the first photographic negative, the earliest television recording and the world's first color moving images. There is also a collection of 35,000 objects and paintings that Kodak Ltd. provided to the institution, and a collection of 1,000 historical objects from the BBC. These collections are made available to the public through the Insight research center.
