Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art
The Estorick Museum is the only museum in Great Britain devoted entirely to Italian art of the first half of the 20th century. You can find here the works of the greatest representatives of futurism and figurativeness, such as Giacomo Balla, Luigi Russolo, Mario Sironi and Zoran Music.
It was opened in 1998 and named after Ericka Estorick, an art dealer and collector who came to London after World War II. The works of Italian artists begin to accumulate with his wife Salome after reading Umberto Boccioni's book on futurism. Passion resulted in the creation of a large collection that was presented in various galleries. In 1993, a few months before his death, Estorick founded a foundation to which he donated all Italian works.
The collection has been in a Georgian townhouse at Canonbury Square since 1998. The building dates from 1803 and is inscribed on the list of second-class monuments. On 3 floors there are 6 galleries, a cafe, a bookshop and a library.
