Green Park

Green Park is one of eight royal parks located in London. Unlike the others, it mainly includes forested glades. There are no lakes or ponds here. There is only one fountain and several monuments, including the Canada Memorial in memory of Canadian soldiers who died during both world wars. In 1994 its solemn unveiling was made by Queen Elizabeth II.

Until the Tudor times, the area where Green Park is now located was a cemetery for those dying of leprosy. It was closed at the behest of Henry VIII in the 16th century, and just over a hundred years later a royal park was created here, surrounded by a brick wall. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it was a popular place for fireworks and fireworks. From here, balloon flights were also often started.
