Wellington Arch

Wellington Arch is a triumphal arch located on the south side of Hyde Park. It was built in 1825 to commemorate the victory of British troops in the Napoleonic wars. From 1912 on the top of the arch there is a bronze quadriga, depicting an angel on a chariot of war pulled by four horses. Inside the arch you can see exhibitions showing its history. You can also enter two terraces, which are located on both sides of the building.

Wellington Arch was created in the 1820s according to the design of Decimus Burton. While the construction was in progress, Buckingham Palace was also renovated and due to the high costs of this renovation, some of the decorations provided for in the original arch design were omitted. Originally, instead of an angel sculpture, on top was also the equestrian statue of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington. However, it was removed in 1885. Until 1992, the second smallest police station in London was located inside the arch.
