The Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace
The royal stables are located on the grounds of Buckingham Palace and are open to the public. Both horses (currently around thirty) and vehicles are kept in them. Among the dozens of carriages and carriage there are those used for solemn occasions and intended for private use. You can also see royal limousines, including Bentley State Limousine and several Rolls-Royce Phantom models.
The royal stables have been housed at Buckingham Palace since the 1820s. Earlier they were at Charing Cross in a place where royal hawks have been kept since the Middle Ages. After the fire of the aviary in 1534, stables, then called King's Mews, were built in its place. When, at the beginning of the 19th century, the official royal residence was moved to Buckingham Palace, the old stables were demolished, and new ones were built next to the palace designed by John Nash.
