Church of the Immaculate Conception Farm Street
Church of the Immaculate Conception Farm Street is a Catholic church, designed and built in 1848 by Joseph John Scoles. The building is considered an exemplary example of the British "Gothic revival." The interior of the church, decorated in the Gothic style, has no walls, numerous sculptural decorations and statues, including the statue of St. Ignacy Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order.
Superior of the English Jesuits, Father Randal Lythgoe planned to build a temple capable of housing up to 1,000 believers, modeled on the monumental Cathedral of St. Peter in French Beauvais. Ultimately, for economic reasons, it was decided to build a much smaller facility. The church is known for its excellent acoustics and high-quality organs. The church choir has been operating since the 19th century.
Church of the Immaculate Conception Farm Street is known as a center of lively social activity, open to the needs of various faithful groups. Since 2013, the temple has held services for Catholics from the LGBTQ community.
