The Wallace Collection
The Wallace Collection is an art museum with the collections of the Seymour-Conway family, which in 1897 gave them to the English people. Apparently, one condition was put at that time - that the items would never leave the museum, even on loan. The museum was opened in 1901 in the Hertford House building on Manchester Square, where it is still today. Admission is free.
The collection has over 5000 exhibits, including paintings, furniture, porcelain and military items. Everything from the 15th to the 19th century. Dutch and Flemish painting of the 17th century and English portrait of the 18th century are particularly well represented. Among porcelain, Meissen and Sewrska porcelain stand out. In turn, the French furniture collection is compared to the collection owned by the Louvre.
A large part of the collection, because nearly 2,500 exhibits, include military items: melee weapons, firearms, and armaments. Many of them come from the East, because in those days the exotic beauty and craftsmanship were greatly appreciated.
