Burlington Arcade
Burlington Arcade is one of the longest covered shopping arcades in England. Under the glass roof there are about fifty clothing, footwear and jewelry stores. Since its creation, Burlington Arcade has been considered a luxury and high-end goods. There are also antique and works of art shops. The passage is patrolled by guards wearing traditional uniforms, consisting of cylinders and frock coats.
Burlington Arcade was built on the initiative of Lord George Cavendish in 1819. There were seventy-two small stores here, some of which are currently connected into larger premises. It was one of the first shopping arcades in Europe and the prototype of the first shopping center. When it was built, it was intended to serve "the sale of jewelry and luxury and fashionable items to satisfy the public." At the beginning of the 20th century, a facade in the style of Victorian mannerism was added to it.
