London Chinatown

Chinese district located in the City of Westminster, adjacent to the famous Soho. The nearest tube stations are Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus. This is the first in Europe, and by far the largest, Chinese district.

Its creation is associated with the fact that in 1842 Hong Kong became a British colony, as a result of which the Chinese arrived and settled in the Islands. Initially, the Chinese minority district was established in the Limehouse district, but after World War II it was moved to its present place. Chinatown is primarily referred to as Gerrard Street, which is home to a plethora of Asian cuisine restaurants, massage parlors, spice stores, food and souvenirs. At every step you can see elements of Eastern culture - bilingual signs, red lanterns, gates decorated with dragons and Chinese inscriptions.

It is best to visit Chinatown at the turn of January and February, when the Chinese New Year is celebrated loudly.
