Carnaby Street
A street in central London, in the Soho district, near Oxford Circus station. It is famous for brand boutiques, numerous pubs and restaurants. In the 1960s it was an important place to meet young people, mainly mods and hippies, gathered around the phenomenon of the so-called "Swinging London." In this way, the fashion and culture of those years was determined, which flourished after the time of post-war savings.
The street exists since 1687. A grocery store was established here at the beginning of the 19th century. Then the street began to develop towards fashion and culture. In 1934 a jazz club was opened here, and in 1957 the first boutique. In the 1960s, the street was filled with fashionable clothing stores, including designers such as Marion Foale, John Stephen and Mary Quantt, who designed the mini skirt. Carnaby Street is not only fashion, but also music. The Who, Rolling Stones and Small Faces performed here, to whom the plaque on one of the buildings is dedicated.
Carnaby Street significantly influenced popular culture. She appeared in films, had a song performed by The Jam and her own musical.
