Cavendish Square Gardens
Cavendish Square Gardens is a square founded on a circle, considered one of the green oases of London. The park is surrounded by a hedge, and within it is a small hill covered with grass, popular in summer as a sunbathing area. There are also marked out paths among the mighty old trees. In the southern part there is a statue representing Lord George Bentinck.
The square was built at the beginning of the 18th century according to the design of John Prince. Its name comes from the name of the wife of Count of Oxford, for whom he was created, Henrietta Cavendish-Holles. Right next to the square lived, among others the famous British surgeon James Paget and Quintin Hogg, who founded the University of Westminster. On the wall of buildings, where the apartment of the latter was, there are so-called Blue Board, which officially confirms this. The best friend of the main character of Robert L. Stevenson's novel "Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" also lived in the square.
