Saint Dunstan in the East Church Garden
Saint Dunstan in the East Church was an Anglican church that was destroyed during the bombing during the Second World War. After the war, it was decided not to rebuild it, and in 1967 grass was planted in its ruins and trees were planted. A small fountain was also set up in the middle of the former nave. The public garden was opened in 1971 and won the Landscape Heritage Award five years later.
The church was built in 1100 in the Gothic style. Although it was seriously damaged during the Great Fire of London in 1666, it was fully rebuilt. A soaring spire was added to it. There were also wooden sculptures by Grinling Gibbson and Bernard Smith's organ, called "Father". The latter, however, were transferred to the Abbey of St. Albans in 1818.
After the bombing in 1941, only the tower and the spire survived intact. The tower now houses the headquarters of The All Hallows House Foundation.
