HMS Belfast
HMS Belfast is a light cruiser of the British Royal Navy navy from World War II. Built in Belfast shipyard. It has been moored on the Thames since 1971 and made available to the public. It is the largest museum ship of this type in Europe. Its total length is 187 m, and in the widest place it measures 19.3 m.
HMS Belfast served the Royal Navy for the first time in August 1939. It even housed 1,000 people. Already in November, however, entered the German magnetic mine. Damage resulting from the explosion required major repairs that lasted until 1942. After the renovation, the ship was again commissioned and served until 1963. He participated in combat operations in Normandy, during the conflict in Korea and the Far East.
Nine decks are open to the public. Inside are loudspeakers emitting machine sounds, crew conversations, and shots. In many rooms multimedia presentations take place, in others the daily lives of crew members are reproduced.
