London Sewing Machine Museum
The London Museum of Sewing Machines is devoted to the history of sewing machines in the years 1850-1950, both home and industrial. Among the more than 600 machines on display is Singer's first machine, a unique machine originally owned by Queen Victoria's oldest daughter, and a patent machine sent from the United States for the Grand Exhibition.
The London Museum of Sewing Machines is located in the Wimbledon Sewing Machine company store on the first floor. The exhibits collected here show the changes and improvements that have been made to sewing machines over the years, especially as they have become more popular in the home environment. The collection was collected for fifty years by the managing director of Wimbledon Sewing Machine Co. Ltd, Ray Rushton.
