Battersea Park
Battersea Park lies on the south bank of the River Thames. In its center is a gazebo with a stage, surrounded by cast iron benches and the Pump House Gallery, located in the Victorian tower. There are numerous sports facilities, including a treadmill, all-year-round cricket, hockey and football pitches and a tennis court. In the mini zoo you can see, among others otters, agouti, several species of monkeys and small farm animals.
The park was created in the mid-nineteenth century according to the design of Sir James Pennethorne. Before it was created, these areas - known as Battersea fields - were often used as duel sites. In January 1864 the first football match took place here according to the rules developed by the Football Association.
In the years 1951–74 there was a funfair here with carousels, swings and a roller-coaster. As a result of an accident in which five children were killed, the main attraction was liquidated, which made the place less popular and closed.
