Science Museum
The Science Museum is located on Exhibition Road, next to the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The collection includes over 300,000 exhibits from various fields of science and technology. Many exhibitions are interactive, and IMAX 3D cinema also works here.
The idea of creating a museum was born in 1851 during the World Exhibition in London, where the achievements of industry, agriculture and mining were presented, including many technical and scientific novelties. The huge popularity of the exhibition prompted the opening of the museum in South Kensington in 1857. Initially, it collected exhibits presenting the development of British science, technology, industry, shipping, but also works of art that were moved to another building in 1909. The Victoria and Albert Museum was established and the Science Museum gained the official name.
The most valuable exhibits include: the oldest preserved steam locomotive Puffing Billy, the first jet engine and prototype television sets by John Baird.
