Kensington Palace
Kensington Palace is a royal residence located within Kensington Gardens. The official part is open to visitors. You can see many paintings and other exhibits included in the so-called Royal Collection. Apartments in the palace are mainly used by members of the royal family who do not have their own residences. Currently, Prince William and Princess Kate live with their children. Prince Harry and his fiancee are also frequent guests.
Kensington Palace has a dual function - a museum and royal residence - since 1899. When voices appeared at the end of the nineteenth century to demolish the whole ruined building, Queen Victoria expressed strong opposition. In 1897, by decision of the parliament, the palace was restored for public money. Two years later, on Queen Victoria's birthday, May 24, the official part was made available to the public.
