Morden Hall Park
Modern Hall Park is a park located on the Wandle River that flows through its center. It houses the Modern Hall estate, and other buildings, including Modern Cottage and Snuff Mill. In spring and summer you can see a rose garden here, where over 2,000 rose bushes grow. There is also a children's playground, a cafe and a renovated old stable building, where fairs of used books are organized.
The estate and the park surrounding it originally belonged to Westminster Abbey. In the 19th century, the Modern Hall housed a school for young gentlemen, and during the First World War the building was adapted for the needs of the military hospital. In the 1870s, the property was bought by Gilliat Hatfeild, a tobacco dealer. His son moved from Modern Hall to a smaller Modern Cottage. Among the trees surrounding it to this day, grow one of the oldest yews in Great Britain.
