Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf is a complex of office buildings, one of the highest in London, led by One Canada Square (also known as Canary Wharf), which - having 50 floors and 235 m high - is second only to the giant The Shard (71 floors, 310 m). Located here 8 Canada Square and 25 Canada Square (both 45 floors and 200 m) occupy the 5th and 6th place on the list of the tallest buildings in the city.
One Canada Square was the shooting set of the popular British science-fiction TV series "Doctor Who". Every day, tens of thousands of people work here, employed by bank representative offices, press companies and worldwide insurance networks. Canary Wharf is also a shopping center visited by several million customers monthly.
Canary Wharf is the former name of the dock area on the River Thames, which began to decline in the 1970s. The revitalization process was successful only in the late 90s after the extension of the Jubilee Line subway line, whose station is located in Canada Square.
